STUDY: Children Attracted To Games Deemed Not For Children

A recent report on Gamasutra has highlighted that Children are Attracted To Games Deemed Not For Children Although they are intended to help parents ensure their children play only age-appropriate material, video game content ratings actually increase the attractiveness of mature content to minors, a new survey claims.

This is no surprise and amazes me that a study was even required? We all want to see R rated movies or read a magazine that was aimed at an older crowd, and girls especially want to grow up quick putting on makeup and dressing in Mums clothes.

I call these kids "aspirational players" and developers need to have and understanding of this when planning or positioning a project in a small range age demographic. Get it wrong and you could miss your target market completely, resulting in a failed project.
